Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil nears deal with Fenerbahce

Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil is in advanced talks to join Istanbul club Fenerbahce, Turkish media reported on Wednesday.

Ozi is expected to sign a three-a-half-year deal with the 19-time Turkish champions, according to privately-owned DHA news agency reported.

The reports came after the World Cup winner with Germany in 2014, fanned speculation by tweeting a photograph of himself in Istanbul with the words: ‘This city … #throwback #Istanbul.’

Sports daily Fanatik reported that Fenerbahce chairman Ali Koc and team director Emre Belozoglu flew to London to persuade the playmaker, who is of Turkish origin, to make the move.

Sokratis close to Serie A return

Arsenal full-back Sokratis looks set to return to former club Genoa, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Greek defender has not played for the north London club this season after head coach Mikel Arteta decided not to register him in the squad, and now his Emirates nightmare looks set to come to an end.

The report claims that the 32-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Serie A giants, with negotiations now taking place between the two clubs.

Genoa are also believed to be one of a number of teams eyeing a move for Sokratis team-mates Shkodran Mustafi, but any move is yet to reach an advanced stage.

Emiliano Buendia opens up on Arsenal links

Norwich City attacking midfielder Emi Buendia has opened up on rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal this month.

The Gunners are keen on bringing the 24-year-old to north London, but the Canaries look set to demand a high fee to part with their playmaker, who scored seven goals and contributed six assist across all competitions this season.

Buendia addressed the rumours on Argentina’s Radio Residencias, saying: ‘Yes, I want to return to the Premier League, I always say it.

‘It is the best league in the world, it is the one that makes the difference at all levels. Any team makes life difficult for anyone, it is very complicated.

‘Their organisational level is perfect, the stadiums have a lot of history, the conditions for playing football are ideal.

‘There are no excuses. And the players and the teams are the best. I aspire to the best and work every day to get back to it, either in my team or through a transfer. Returning to the Premier in the short term is a dream.

‘It is true that there was a lot of talk in the summer, after relegation, about the possibility that both I and other teammates could leave the team to continue in the Premier League.’

He added: ‘However, I always had my head with the club. I belong to Norwich, I have to do things well for my team. Tomorrow we will see, but I never had my head outside the objectives, to work so that my club does well.

‘As this season unfolds, we are doing well and I am very happy to be here. We are in a good position, I am feeling important, I am scoring goals and making assists for my teammates.’

Arsenal considering January swoop for Yves Bissouma

Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his midfield options in the January transfer window and is said to be keen on signing Brighton star Yves Bissouma.

The Gunners boss had been vying after Emi Buendia’s signature, however, Norwich City are reluctant to let their attacking midfielder leave this month.

Whereas Bissouma is believed to ‘open’ to the idea of joining the north Londoner, should the opportunity present itself.

The 24-year-old midfielder holds Arsenal in high regard, being an Arsenal fan himself while he has also developed a strong relationship with Gabriel Magalhaes from their time together a Ligue 1 club Lille.
