Watch Aubameyang golden chance missed against Olympiacos
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was not on best form in front of goal in Gunners 1-0 defeat to Olympiacos last night as he missed a number of clear-cut chances but big thanks to Mikel Arteta’s side first-leg victory in Greece, helped them to book their place in quarters-finals of the competitions.
The Gunners holding a 3-1 victory from the first-leg in Greece, and a poor display in front of goal saw Mikel Arteta’s side lose 1-0 at Emirates but advance on aggregate.
Aubameyang, who, left on the bench during the north London derby after turning up late for the game in what was viewed as a breach of pre-match protocol, made return to starting XI against Greek champions last night but the Gabonese missed a number of clear-cut chances, especially in second-leg when Olympiacos took the lead over the London club.
The Gunners skipper missed a glorious chance, bursting free from the half-way line but poking a chipped effort well wide of the target before Olympiacos goalkeeper Jose Sa made himself big to deny him after brilliant cross from Gabriel Martinelli.
Aubameyang was not alone in having an off-night, though, and in truth the whole Arsenal side especially Nicolas Pepe weren’t at the races but still managed to book their place in quarters-finals of the competitions as Youssef El-Arabi scoring in a third successive game against Arsenal to earn the Greek champions victory on the night.
