Chelsea vs Manchester City

London side Chelsea take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.

Both sides come into the tie off the back of excellent but exhausting results in the Champions League in midweek, with the Blues defeating Porto on aggregate and City triumphing over Borussia Dortmund to secure their places in the last four.

Chelsea: Kepa, Rudiger, Silva, Azpilicueta, James, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell, Ziyech, Mount, Werner

Man City: Steffen, Cancelo, Dias, Laporte, Mendy, Rodrigo, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Torres, Sterling, Jesus

1* – Chelsea get the game underway, a return trip to Wembley is at stake. Who’s going to come out on top today?

5* – The Man City press pins Chelsea deep in their own final third. Ben Chilwell attempts to work the ball clear down the Chelsea left and gets clattered by a heavy tackle from Fernandinho. Free kick to Chelsea.

9* – Chilwell chips a pass over the top for Timo Werner to chase. He breaks off the shoulder of the last Man City defender and sprints in behind.

14* – Decent effort. A nice counter-attack from Man City sees Gabriel Jesus collect the ball wide on the left wing. He cuts back inside and takes a shot with his right foot, aiming for the for corner.

20* – Hakim Ziyech dribbles his way into the left side of the Man City box and looks for Timo Werner in the middle. Ayermic Laporte spots the pass, intercepts and sets Kevin De Bruyne away on the counter-attack. He sends it forward to Raheem Sterling who carries it into Chelsea’s final third but can’t pick out Gabriel Jesus in space on the left.

23* – That was another really bright Chelsea break, but they didn’t have enough bodies in the box to make the most of it. Ziyech was forced to go it alone or try to thread the eye of a needle to find Werner.

25* – It’s Chelsea well on top here. Jorginho does well in midfielder and they work it wide to Chilwell, whose cross takes a little deflection that almost takes it into the path of Ziyech.

32* – It’s been a proper chess match so far here, but Chelsea have done an excellent job of stopping City playing. With the two holders in midfielder, City are just a little outnumbered when they do get the ball high up the pitch.

40* – Mike Dean did give Fernandinho a proper talking to after that last tackle, but Mr Robson is right – he should’ve been straight into the book.

45* – Ferran Torres and Raheem Sterling have found themselves behind Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez in the pecking order in recent weeks and neither have done anything so far that would constitute taking their opportunity today.

Remember, both managers are allowed to make five changes this afternoon. It wouldn’t surprise me if we saw some from Man City in particular before too long.

GOAL! | Chelsea 1-0 Man City | Hakim Ziyech 55’

There’s the opener!

It’s very similar to the one which was ruled out early on as Werner breaks down the left and finds Ziyech in the middle to stroke home.

54* – Ruben Dias makes a pig’s ear of a long ball over the top and Ziyech is onto it but is denied by Steffen, who makes amends for his error a few minutes ago. Huge chance.

65* – City are just starting to build some pressure. Jesus lays off to Foden, who clips a nice ball towards Sterling at the back post but Rudiger gets a crucial head on.

70* – Chelsea’s turn to look to the bench – Christian Pulisic is on in place of Mason Mount, presumably to add even more pace on the counter-attack.

73* – Raheem Sterling’s having one here. Again, it’s through him that a City attack breaks down as he puts too much on a pass to Cancelo on the overlap and the ball rolls out of play for a goal-kick.

88* – There’s going to be plenty of added time here I reckon, but we’re into the final couple minutes of regulation.
