Watch How Edouard Mendy Was Welcomed In Senegal Like A King After UCL Success
The first African goalkeeper to win the champions league Edouard Mendy was given an hero reception from his Senegalese team-mates as he return to training camp for the first time since Chelsea’s Champions League victory over Manchester City.
Mendy, who joined the west London club from Ligue 1 side Rennes last summer, became the first-ever Senegalese goalkeeper and just the second African shot-stopper to win the Champions League or European Cup.
The 29-year-old delivered impressive performances by recorded a ninth clean sheet, with his last was against City in final as Blues secured a 1-0 victory, marking the most shut-outs by a goalkeeper in a single campaign.
In fact, Mendy only conceded three goals in 12 appearances in the Uefa Champions League – and two of those efforts actually made the shortlist for Goal of the Tournament.
