Watch Real Madrid vs Chelsea Live
1* – the match is underway here
5* – A first little glimpse of the midfield tussle between Kante and Casemiro, which I’m sure will run through the game.
10* – Eder Militao goes through the back of Mount to get to the ball and the Chelsea man gets a free-kick. Weirdly, it’s Militao who comes off worse as he clatters the side of his head on the deck as he slides in
14* – Real Madrid are in control of the game here
14* – GOAL! | Real Madrid 0-1 Chelsea | Christian Pulisic 14′
Christian Pulisic beats the offside trap to run onto a ball over the top and then shows the composure to round Courtois and slot home.
21* – Madrid look a bit shell-shocked. They’ve not got going and certainly don’t look at home in this system.
26* – Benzema’s been a spectator so far but he works space on the edge of the box and lets fly with his left boot. Mendy is beaten but the ball clips the outside of the post and sails wide.
29* – Goal Benzema Madrid work a corner deep to the back post, where it’s kept alive and Benzema is sharpest in the middle, cushioning and then lashing into the roof of the net on the volley, on the swivel. Superb finish.
36* – They’re a different side now, Madrid. There’s a swagger and a zip, and not just because of what this monsoon has done to the surface.
43* – the rain is starting to have an effect now. A few players have been slipping and sliding in the last few minutes and then what looked a lovely pass from Modric ends up zipping away off the surface and straight out for a throw.
All-square at the break after, I’ll be honest, a much better half than I was expecting
50* – Karim Benzema looks so sharp, but as he drives forward to the corner of the box he doesn’t get enough bend on his shot and it sails high and wide.
60* – I wonder whether both sides would take this result now if you offered it to them.
63* – Reece James and Hakim Ziyech are stripped. For Madrid, Eden Hazard is imminent
71* – The changes have really livened Chelsea up. Ziyech drills a terrific low ball across the six-yard box but Havertz isn’t anticipating it and can’t get on the end of it.
77* – A couple more Madrid changes – Odriozola and Asensio are on for Marcelo and Carvajal. That will mean a shift in shape.
83* – Into the final ten minutes. Chelsea would probably have taken this, given the away goal, but it feels like Madrid have been there for the taking tonight.
90* – Kroos drills in a terrific low corner and Varane steers a diving header just wide of the far post.
